Religious Places in Ayodhya

Places of Worship in AyodhyaAyodhya, located in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, is a city with immense religious significance for Hindus. It is believed to be the birthplace of Lord Rama, a revered deity in Hinduism. Here are some significant religious places in Ayodhya:
Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid: The Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid dispute was a long-standing religious and political conflict in India. The dispute revolved around a religious site in the city of Ayodhya in the state of Uttar Pradesh. The site is considered by Hindus to be the birthplace of Lord Rama, one of the major deities in Hinduism. However, in the 16th century, the Babri Masjid, a mosque, was built on the same site by Mughal Emperor Babur.

Tensions over the site simmered for centuries, and the issue became a focal point for Hindu-Muslim tensions in India. The dispute gained prominence in the 1980s when various Hindu organizations, led by the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), started demanding the construction of a Hindu temple at the site.

The conflict escalated on December 6, 1992, when a large mob of Hindu activists demolished the Babri Masjid. This act of demolition led to widespread communal riots across India, resulting in significant loss of life and property.

In the aftermath of the demolition, the Indian government took control of the site and locked it to prevent further disputes. Legal battles ensued, and the case went through various courts over the years. The dispute became a highly contentious and polarizing issue in Indian politics.

On November 9, 2019, the Supreme Court of India delivered a landmark judgment in the case. The court ruled in favor of the construction of a Hindu temple on the disputed site and ordered the allocation of an alternative piece of land to the Sunni Waqf Board for the construction of a mosque. This judgment aimed to bring closure to the contentious issue, although it was met with mixed reactions from various quarters.
